Robert Young's 1898 edition of his translation. This is the third and last edition that he produced. Being a strictly literal translation makes it the perfect study tool. You can now see exactly what God said and how He said it. There is no changing of words, no softening of words or passages, just translated strictly as it was written in the original languages. . This translation will allow the reader to see exactly what God said and will allow a more precise study of the Bible. How can a reader study a Bible when the translators have have interpreted instead of translated? The vast number of modern translation interpret (tell you what they thought God meant) instead of translate (tell you what God actually said). When Robert Young translated this edition, he was not trying to please or appease someone, he was not translating in an attempt to rewrite the Bible to fit his theological beliefs. *** My two-star rating reflects only the usefulness of this Kindle edition based solely on ease of navigation which is critical in any digital Bible. I am NOT rating the actual content. ***I am disappointed with navigation. This is my only copy of have of Young's Literal Translation. I wanted it on my Kindle as a study tool. While I'm keeping it, navigation is in desperate need of improvement. Each book is treated as a "Chapter", and there is no deeper level of navigation. If you want to go to Psalm 119, you have to page through from Psalm 1 till you find 119. The only saving grace here is that verse numbers are all marked as chapter and verse (119:1) so you always know which chapter you're in. (I've found with some Bibles it's not always easy to know where you are.)
Every Book in this volume is titled as "Young's Literal Translation: (book name)" In the table of contents with body text at a comfortable type size, this means you typically see only the first two letters of the Book Name, as the rest of the line is taken up with "Young's ..."

I became interested in Young's Literal Translation because I wanted to have something that would give me a better understanding of the original Hebrew without actually having to learn Hebrew. Young's seems to be a step in the right direction, though it could be debated just how "literal" Young was. There will always be tension between literal translation and what makes sense in the target language, English in this case. I think maybe Young erred on the side of making sense in English, but that's my uneducated opinion. The original Hebrew is very rich, and there is a lot of nuance that gets lost in translation. For that, there seems to be no substation to learning Hebrew. In this volume, Young provides his sterile interpretation of the original languages without providing any linguistic commentary.

I have become very interested in learning about the various mainstream English translations of the Bible and wanted to acquire a very literal translation. Young's is one of the most literal word for word translations, but printed copies of it are expensive. I was so glad to find this edition. However, on my s the table of contents is not active, which makes locating specific passages difficult. I don't know what is meant by "one-touch navigation" as shown in its description, as I can't find any easy way to navigate through it. (Using the search feature for a specific book and verse seems to slowly search through the entire 's contents and sometimes yields no results.) I'm still very happy to have this copy so I didn't deduct a star for that.
I will note for those who are just beginning to read the Bible or who plan to buy only one Bible Because it is such a literal translation from the Hebrew and Greek and is an older translation, the phrasing can be awkward, making this translation not as easily readable as more modern translations. Young's is perhaps better used for serious study of the Bible or in addition to one of the later English translations.
Good, accurate, easily read translations in modern English include the NKJV (my personal favorite), the NASB (one of the more literal modern translations), the HCSB, the ESV, and the NIV (especially the more literal 1984 version). And of course the KJV is an accurate, beautiful translation; just remember that some of the words, such as "suffer," have changed in meaning over time since it was written and revised, and it includes older English such as "thee" and "thou." You can't go wrong with any of these. We are extremely blessed to have many excellent translations from which to choose.
I like just the translation of the original words. For example every other bible I have or looked at, in Genesis 64
uses the word (Giants or Nephilim) Youngs translation says (Fallen Ones) then in Numbers 1333 everyone else is still using the words (Giants or Nephilim) and Youngs uses the word (Nephilim) here . This says to me the (ONES) in Genesis 6 are different from the (ONES) in Numbers 1333. To me I conclude fallen "Angels" are being spoken of in Genesis 64 and offspring of Fallen Angels or Nephilim, which were giants, are being spoke about in Numbers 1333. This changes your understanding of why God sent the flood upon the world to destroy all of the flesh corrupted by the fallen angels, by the way Youngs calls them "Messengers" not angels.
There is so much more to be learned by comparing the original words and the translations of what the translators thought the original was trying to say. This is a very worthwhile book if you're a thinker looking for answers.
One of the best Biblical texts ever. Use alongside your KJV or other version of the Bible to ascertain the best literal translation of the exact Greek words. Young arrived at his translation by comparing a number of ancient Greek texts to each other and by first translating them in the order in which they appear in Greek grammar, and then working it from its inherent integrity outward to arrive a what he called a "literal translation." Truly exceptional, and it will shed light on those verses where English translators added a word or words that were not in the Greek texts because they thought it would make better sense in the English, but which sometimes express the translators preconceived idea rather than what the Greek really said. An exceptional tool of comparative translation for the serious Biblical student and practitioner.
I really enjoy the Young's literal translation but this set up is not user-friendly. The book is very large and the writing is very small. Also they don't have the books at the top of the page so it's very hard to find particular books or versus. I'm sending this back and looking for a better version of the Young's literal translation.
