Former soldier Octavio “Tavio” Reyes works as a barista, a favorite with the customers—especially Tommy O’Shaughnessy. An avowed geek, Tommy comes in daily to flirt, usually under the guise of Trekkie talk. Tavio hesitates; now that he's out of the army, he’s not sure how out he should be, or whether to take his chances on a geek devoted to sci-fi and comic books. But when Tommy compares him to an unemotional Vulcan, Tavio finally considers dating an out-and-proud nerd. Then Tommy surprises him again and introduces him to his daughter, whom Tommy loves even more than Star Trek or Tavio. Now Tavio has a whole new decision to make Is he ready to romance a family man?

My Review:
This is a sweet little book about the complete build-up to the beginning of a relationship. Tavio knows Tommy from the coffee shop he works in. Tommy has come in every day for a year, flirting with Tavio.

Tommy is that guy...you know, nerdy and geeky, completely exuberant about life to the point that he tends to be annoying to those around him. He's loud. He talks to anyone in the vicinity. He loves Star Trek and most the time Tavio simply doesn't know what to do with him or take him.

Tavio is the complete opposite of Tommy. He's quiet and withdrawn. He observes the world, doesn't take part in it. He has some issues from his years in the military. And over time, he's become intrigued by Tommy.

The book is such a non-romance in the traditional sense. It's told entirely from Tavio's POV and you can see Tommy slowly building up to asking him out for a date...something that obviously terrifies this guy who doesn't balk at anything. That in itself makes Tommy such an endearing guy. You can see how much both these guys want this, but they just aren't sure how to approach things. From the way it read, I don't think Tavio has much experience and Tommy has built this up in his mind so huge over this year that now he's scared. It means too much.

It's simply one of those books that you walk away from with a smile on your face. Sweet. That one word describes this story...it was just really sweet.

Medium Sweet Extra Shot of Geek edition by R Cooper Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I read the story, and I just don't get it. Tommy and Tavio were ... what, exactly? Not lovers, hardly even friends. I kept waiting for something to happen, for a relationship to develop but nothing ever did. Oh, there was a kiss, but a kiss does not make a relationship. The conversations were one sided and usually not connected. I left thinking, "is that all there is?"
Not to mention Adventure Time. The character of Tommy was so funny. His constant nerdy references made him endearing to me as well as to the other main character, Tavio. Tavio is such a sexy quiet guy that the sexual tension is kind of like-what is he thinking?-kind of crazy. I was just waiting for him to pounce. Love, love loved the last line!
Sweet (medium sweet?) story! I would love to have the main characters and their world fleshed out more and have the plot extended.
Lots of potential. But by the time I really started to get into the characters it ended. And the end was so abrupt.
Absolutely love it. Was lots of fun to read. The chatterbox and a strong silent type. Am looking forward to more from this author. Recommend.
Sweet is a good word for this one. The story line was a bit odd, but it was easy to follow. It was not a real intense read, but not unpleasant. I really liked the fact that there was no sex scenes. I'm still trying to follow the daughter story line. That part has me confused, but I can overlook that.
Don't get me wrong, I love Cooper's work - but this was disappointing in the end. She makes these characters, reals you in, and just when you think they are going somewhere, she skips it all, doesn't explain anything and ends it. *sigh* I'm getting used to her quirky rhythm of character conversations, and even her skipping over the more private parts of the relationship. But this book didn't explain anything and skipped over so much build up.
